Arapahoe County K-9s the first in Colorado to be trained to find missing, lost people

The Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office now has K9s that can track missing people, including children or at-risk adults, the first working team of its kind in Colorado.

ARAPAHOE COUNTY, Colo. (KDVR) — The Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office now has K-9s that can track missing people, including children or at-risk adults — the first working team of its kind in Colorado.

K-9s Rex, Riley and Bear are now the first school therapy dogs in the state of Colorado to become certified tracking dogs using a method called “casting.” Dogs spend 16 weeks training on different surfaces to follow a scent and ignore all other odors.
