Experience the 10th Mountain Division’s history via snowmobile

You could say Camp Hale is the largest ghost town in Colorado. North of Leadville, just due south of Redcliff and just a little over 80 years old.

SUMMIT COUNTY (KDVR) — You could say Camp Hale is the largest ghost town in Colorado. North of Leadville, just due south of Redcliff and just a little over 80 years old.

This is where the famous 10th Mountain Division trained during World War II. In 1942, 14,500 US Army soldiers called Camp Hale home. Mountain climbing, winter camping, soldering and of course skiing were learned. Skills they were eager to use against Hitler’s Germany.
