Colorado judge orders two Venezuelan men detained in Aurora to stay in the US — at least for now

U.S.DistrictJudgeCharlotteSweeneygrantedatemporaryrestrainingorderagainstimmigrationofficialsonbehalfoftwomenidentifiedonlybytheirinitialsasD.B.U.,32,andR.M.M.,25. BothareVenezuelanmenwhotheAmericanCivilLibertiesUnionarguedareat“immediaterisk”forremovaltoElSalvadorundertheAlienEnemiesAct.  TheTrumpadministrationhasdeclaredanemergencyandisbypassingnormalimmigrationprocedurestoremovesomeVenezuelanimmigrants. BothmencametotheU.S.tofleetheVenezuelangangTrendeAragua,orTdA,andwerenotmembersofit,lawyersfortheACLUsaid.Thefederalgovernmentcharacterizedthembothasmembersofthegangbecauseofapartytheyattendedandtheirtattoos,accordingtocourtfilings.
