The measure — which also includes cuts to foreign aid — now goes to the U.S. House for final approval.

The U.S. Senate narrowly approved a White House request to claw back $9 billion in funding for foreign aid and public media — money that Congress had approved just months earlier — in the early hours of Thursday by a vote of 51-48.
Colorado Sens. Michael Bennet and John Hickenlooper voted against the package. Republican Sens. Susan Collins of Maine and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska voted with Democrats against the cuts.
